Why Cleanse + The Power of Juicing

November 17, 2017

I was talking with my brother Robert one day and he was telling me how he feels run down and tired.  He is getting older and he has been trying to lose weight for awhile. He goes on and off of diets, different workout regimens, but can’t seem to feel better or keep the weight off. I asked him if he has ever done a body cleanse, his response, “Never! Why would I do that?”.

Knowing that my brother owns a Meineke Auto Shop, I presented him with the following question, “How often people get their oil changed in their cars?” The answer, three to four times per year. The body, similar to a car, gets weighed down by standard wear and tear. The food we eat, the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the chemicals we put on our skin all contribute to what may lead to sickness and disease over time. So I asked him, “Are you telling me you take better care of your car than your own body?”

While cleansing, juicing is a very important part of the process. Recently, juicing has become synonymous with great health and overall vitality. If you are trying to boost your immune function, lose weight, heal from an illness or simply revitalize your overall health profile, juicing may be exactly what you are looking for.

Increase fruit and vegetable intake. We all lead busy lives and it can be difficult to adequately incorporate enough daily fruits and vegetables recommended by nutritional science for optimal health. A lack of fresh fruits and veggies can be responsible for a host of health problems, including digestive distress, low energy, poor immunity and even serious chronic diseases. If you find it difficult to consume enough fresh produce, juicing can easily help you up your intake. Even if your consumption is already plentiful, there’s no harm in adding more of these life-force foods into your regimen.

Absorb more nutrients. Fruit and vegetable juices retain most of the vitamins, minerals and plant chemicals (phytonutrients) that would be found in the whole versions of those foods. When you drink fresh juice, these highly concentrated nutrients are available to the body in much larger quantities than if the piece of fruit or vegetable was eaten whole. In addition, many of these enzymes are destroyed by the heat used to cook many foods. Since fruits and vegetables are juiced raw, the enzymes are at their most pure and viable form.

Easy assimilation. Because juicing removes the fiber, your juicer basically helps to “pre-digest” your produce. Juicing skips the lengthy digestive process and is able to feed your body’s cells within minutes of consumption. Many people have impaired digestion as a result of making less-than-optimal food choices over the course of a lifetime. This can limit your body’s ability to absorb and reap the benefits of vital nutrients. Juicing provides a fantastic opportunity for the body to gently but efficiently maximize these healing nutrients.

Improved digestion. Juicing takes much less energy to digest than to digest vegetables in their whole form. Juicing also helps to preserve many enzymes that are beneficial to the digestive process, which makes for optimal digestive health and even intestinal healing.

Incorporate a wider variety of fruits and vegetables into your diet. Juicing provides a great way to add nutrients from the fruits or vegetables that you normally might not eat. For example, many people have aversions to whole celery or cucumbers, but find their juices to be extremely palatable. Juicing also allows you to have creative control over various flavor combinations, which again can expose you to the nutritional benefits of many fruits and vegetables you might not otherwise consume.

Defend against disease. A growing body of research now shows that drinking fresh juice can prevent and even treat many of our chronic diseases such as obesity, diabetes, IBS, heart disease, allergies, asthma, arthritis, and even cancer. Valuable compounds called flavonoids and anthocyanins are abundant in a variety of fruits and vegetables and help the bodyguard itself against cellular damage that results from daily exposure to various chemicals and pollution.

Better hydration. The human body is made up of anywhere from 50-80% water. Our cells require optimal hydration in order to function properly. In addition to giving you vitamins, minerals, enzymes, and phytochemicals, raw juice provides you with an extra boost of hydration to the body.

More energy! When your body is well nourished, well hydrated and has all the minerals and enzymes that it needs, your cells are happy and the body performs optimally. Juicing offers an abundance of live enzymes that combine with an intake of valuable nutrients and loads of oxygen-rich chlorophyll to give you an unbeatable and energized feeling. Juicing also gives your body a rest from the labor-intensive process of digestion, which then allows the body more energy for your physical activity, detoxification and even warding off illness.
